
Attract Students With a Website They Love

The University of Siegen wants to win more students by showing the quality of its academic offer. The old website from the 1990s cannot do that. We ran a brand audit, gathered insights through user research, then moved into concept and design. To succeed in a complex university environment, we brought all parties into regular workshops. The outcome is a new website that meets audience needs in a clear and simple way.
University websites are a key driver for attracting prospective students and researchers. At Siegen, the old site makes it hard for users to find their way through more than 100,000 subpages. The design is overdue for an update.
Together with the web team at Progressive Digital, we steer and deliver this complex project. We turn strategy into a website concept, design, and supporting communications. We start with a brand audit to identify strengths and gaps in the digital experience, then use those insights to evolve the identity beyond the web. We extend the University of Siegen’s design system for its most important audience – prospective students – and align the brand architecture. By simplifying navigation, we also bring the faculties closer together.
Next, we conduct user interviews to identify each audience’s key needs and translate them into the right UX design.
On the organizational side, we manage stakeholder complexity over about twelve months. We align the interests of the faculties, university leadership, and committees through regular feedback sessions. Steering groups and workshops involve decision makers and users alike and ensure the new website reflects everyone’s needs. With precise and flexible project management, we reach good decisions quickly despite many stakeholders and diverse requirements.
To enable the University of Siegen’s internal teams to create audience specific content with the new CMS, we develop content guidelines and run a practical workshop with clear examples.
The result is a new online presence for the University of Siegen that is intuitive, visually appealing, and functional for editors and users alike, multilingual, and accessible
Most important: prospective students feel welcomed on the redesigned site and quickly find what they need. The result is a higher conversion rate and more students enrolling at the University of Siegen.
Next, to reach as many young people as possible with the University of Siegen’s academic programs, we develop a multiyear marketing campaign that wins them over.
